I will present an overview of recent simulations of radiation fields and their applications at various accelerators at CERN and at GSI/FAIR using the particle transport code FLUKA. The specific examples selected for CERN are all connected to future beam intensity increases
at the PS and the PS Booster. A major part concerns the optimization of additional shielding in a wide area above the injection and the PS ejection regions. For the latter, realistic beam tracking studies were done in the region of the extraction septum to improve, by the installation of a preceding shadowing dummy septum, the radiation problems associated with multi-turn extraction. For the Booster, a new set of beam loss monitors was optimized with respect to type, position and number. Various activation studies were also done, including the soil in certain regions of the PS. The simulations usually describe the measured data both for stray radiation and for activation to within ~30% and have thus predictive power.

At GSI/FAIR, apart from basic shielding studies for the new Linac and the new SIS100, the main focus will be on the radiation associated with losses of charged-exchanged ions out of the main beam and their link to possible quenching problems in the superconducting magnets.
