A preliminary 3D geometry model of the ESS cryomodule and quadrupole magnets was constructed in the MARS simulation code. The losses were simulated in the middle of quadrupole magnets, in the horizontal and vertical planes. The energy deposition and a prompt dose rates were calculated outside the cryomodule and in between the magnets. The location and number of the loss detectors was determined based on the simulation results.
Total dose expected to the loss monitors during their lifetime, was estimated based on the simulations. The asnwer is valid within one order of magnitude and is calculated to be at most few GGy.
