Abstract:
An RF cavity is designed around a reference particle; if the energy or the RF phase of a real particle is too far from the reference, the particle is lost. The longitudinal acceptance the area of energy-phase in which a particle is transported is evaluated in simulations by tracking several particles with different energies and phases, and noting when particles are transmitted or lost. This process can be time consuming because of the large number of particles that must be tracked. Instead, we propose a method to evaluate the acceptance directly from the Hamiltonian associated with the cavity.
